Three CD set. 2018 album from the Swedish symphonic metal band. Metal operas aren't as unusual as they once were and the idea will forever have a new meaning after the release of Therion's Beloved Antichrist. Comprised of three discs, an orchestra, an enormous choir, 29 different vocalists, roles and characters, and 46 songs with a run time of over three and a half hours, Beloved Antichrist has been a 30+ year journey for Therion mastermind Christofer Johnsson. Inspired by the story, A Short Tale of the Antichrist by Russian philosopher Vladimir Soloviov, Beloved Antichrist took on a life of it's own. "Certain scenes are more or less exactly from the book, but most scenes have no connection with it at all. It is simply the main idea of the antichrist character that is very much based on the book," explains Johnsson. "We have taken a great story and modernized and perfected it into a great new story that could make it worthwhile for a very broad audience."
